Taiyaki (鯛焼き) is a traditional Japanese fish-shape cake filled with red bean paste.
The Taiyaki shops use big cast iron pans like these to make many taiyaki at the same time.
For home use, we use a mini taiyaki maker like this below. And today I’m giving away a Taiyaki Makers to three (3) readers around the world!

Willl the taiyaki pan work on an electric stovetop burner?
No it will not work on the electric stovetop burner. Sorry!
Since I was not so lucky to get a taiyaki maker and I might be going to Kyoto or maybe Osaka. Will I be able to find it there? It doesn’t have to be Tai, could be other molds.
Than you.
Hi Suz! For this kind of mold, usually it’s Tai shape. 🙂 Try the kitchen store, or Tokyu Hands… easiest place to look (if you’re not familiar with the area) is to stop by department store kitchen floor. Hopefully you can find it in more local stores so the price is not too high like one in a department store…
