{Worldwide} Win a brand new JOC sweatshirt that comes in white or black! This giveaway is open to a worldwide audience.
JOC has a brand-new logo! If you’ve been following our blog for a while, you might have noticed the presence of a graceful Japanese lady in the kimono on the header of our web pages. The logo, designed by the talented Kaori Drome, is a small labor of love. And it is the first time I feel truly connected to a visual image that speaks of Just One Cookbook. So we wanted to celebrate this special moment with a new JOC sweatshirt giveaway!
JOC Logo Design
For those who are curious about the meaning of the design, here are some features:
- An ukiyo-e (浮世絵) style lady in the kimono is reading a cookbook while she cooks with saibashi (cooking chopsticks) in her hand.
- The cookbook cover says “one” (壱) in kanji.
- The red stamp represents Japanese hanko stamps, showing again “one” (壱) in kanji.
- The Japanese letter below Just One Cookbook says ジャストワンクックブック in katakana.
Is this lady in the kimono supposed to be me? Maybe! When it comes to Japanese cuisine, I enjoy learning more about traditional and classic styles of cooking and techniques. As I see the importance of preserving one’s culture through its culinary treasures that have withstanding time, it motivates me to share and advocate for what defines the essence of my cuisine.
Surely, cuisines evolve and we welcome creativity, but I believe we can stay true to the ethos. I hope you enjoy the new logo and what I share on Just One Cookbook.

Love JOC! I always follow your recipes for dinner for my kiddos.
私は留学でアメリカに来て、学校で日本料理を紹介する為にこのサイトを使っています。材料が無くても簡単にできるレシピを紹介して下さってありがとうございます。
I came to the United States as an exchange student and am using this site to introduce Japanese cuisine to my school. Thank you for sharing recipes that are easy to make without any ingredients.
I usually look for anything that will give me something to scratch that authentic japanese food itch 😆
Love how you make japanese food so accessible for all of us ❤️ thank you for your hard work!
I was introduced to your website through my college son. He wanted to make Japanese food that his grandmother used to make. All your recipes are just like her cooking, bringing back wonderful memories. And, the best part is that I can now cook Japanese food! Thank you for providing some amazingly delicious (and some easy) recipes for a beginner cook like me.
Hi Nami, I am from Singapore. I started following your videos for simple and easy to follow recipes after my family and I dine at one Japanese restaurant which cost us a bomb. After subscribing to your videos, we saved a lot of money and can eat healthily and comfortably at home. I also enjoyed your recipes on making the sauces from scratch. Nothing taste better than home cook 😘 I even recommended to all my friends who struggle to cook at home to follow your videos and they enjoyed it. I thank you for being so generous in sharing your step by step recipes and I believe all your fans out there greatly appreciate it. I sincerely hope you and One Cookbook to continue guiding us with many more of your delicious home cooked food. ❤️
Konnichiwa Kawaii Namichan! I always look for dinner recipes but also for specific ingredients. When my shiso plant was going full on, I loved your shiso recipe, esp the drink. When I wanted a dessert I always found something I could make with ingredients on hand. I live in Bay Area also and miss Hawaii and availability of good home style Japanese food and other ethnic foods Hawaii offers so I am really grateful for your site! I always tell people about your site!
I am extra small, white preferred.
Thank you for your site!!! Gambatte ne!!
I had lived in Japan briefly, so am familiar with some of the typical and familiar Japanese food. I like to come to your website for authentic recipes to try them out for myself. Thank you.
