If you shop at Albertson’s or Safeway, you probably have seen the 1 in 5 Children Struggle with Hunger signs in the stores.
Fact: One in five children in America live in households without consistent access to adequate food.
Like many of you, I was surprised to learn this as well and I am proud to partner with Safeway Foundation and the Entertainment Industry Foundation (EIF) to raise awareness for “Hunger Is” campaign.
From September 1 through September 30 2015, Albertsons Safeway is raising awareness and helping relief childhood hunger in America, including providing volunteer hours and funds that will improve health outcomes for hungry children and their families.
This campaign is personally meaningful to me for a few reasons. First of all, I have 2 children of my own and I try to feed them nutritious meals so they will have lots of energy and be healthy. It saddens me to think of other children going hungry.
As my children are getting a bit older and understand social issues, we sometimes watch documentaries on global issues on water and other food topics. I was really happy to hear after watching and discussing these topics they both want to help those in needs when they grow up.
Secondly, I try to find a worthy cause to donate to each month from the sales of my e-cookbook. I’ll be donating 20% of the sales to the Hungry Is campaign this month.
How Can We Help Hungry Children?
1. Donate at Hungry Is campaign website.
2. For those of you who shop at Albertsons Safeway stores, donate at the pin pad when you pay for items in the stores. Safeway Foundation and the Entertainment Industry Foundation (EIF) will help manage the local distribution of funds collected by store to their local food banks in the communities in which the Albertsons Safeway family of stores operates.
3. Purchase a participating product for the “Hunger Is” campaign from one of the partners including:
- Marie Calender’s
- Healthy Choice
- Bertolli’s
- PF Changs brands
- Coke
- Unilever
- Kellogg’s
- Campbell’s
Every designated item supports “Hunger Is,” helping connect hungry kids in our community neighborhoods to healthy food. It’s difficult to help solve the world’s problem in one day, but if we do all our small share I believe the world will be a better place.

This campaign is great and you are too since you help them raising money 🙂 Good luck to all of you and, precisely to those families.
I’m sending lots lots of love and positive vibes from Canada, Bianca.
Hi Bianca! Thank you so much for your sweet words and support! xoxo
It’s very sad to think America is now in the situation where poverty is affecting one in five children. It’s good to know there are wonderful people out there who are very concerned and have come up with a way of doing something about it xx
This is such a great campaign Nami! I haven’t heard of Hunger is, so I’ll check them out. Thanks for the link! Oh how exciting to be so close to moving back into your kitchen. Can’t wait to see the finished pictures!
When are you going to put your recipes into a cookbook?
Hi Laurel! Thank you so much for your interest. Maybe when a good offer comes? 🙂 I’m pretty occupied with my two young children, this blog, and youtube channel. 🙂
