Nobuko Hashimoto, aka “Hashimoto mama”, is a victim of devastating 2011 Tohoku earthquake and resulting tsunami. In her recently published book, she shares her story about preparing food for over 5000 volunteers in her own kitchen and what impact this had made to her life and volunteers’. She also shares popular tohoku regional recipes that she prepared for the volunteers in this book. The book is written in both Japanese and English.
For those living in Japan, you can order the book from Amazon. Each copy is 1680 yen with free domestic shipping! If you are living outside of Japan, you can order the book from a non-profit volunteer organization It’s Not Just Mud (INJM). For those living in the U.S, you can order the book at Kinokuniya.com.
I’m giving away a copy of Hashimoto’s Tohoku Recipes (「石巻ボランティアハウスの橋本ごはん」) to 3 (three) winners!

Heart warming story and again shows how food ties us all together. I am from Alberta and we are famous for our beef! I prefer beef from here more than anywhere else. Although, I have not had the pleasure of trying authentic Kobe beef.

Lovely giveaway! I follow you everywhere:) My favorite food, locally…hm! I love everything! 😀
dungeness crab!
My favourite local food is Beef on Kimmelweck rolls. It’s delicious! I live near Buffalo, NY.
I love seaweed salad with cucumbers
My favorite food in my area is pork barbcue with a tall glass of sweet tea, unfortunately I am diabetic and can’t drink the sweet tea any more.
I am a follower in Hawaii and love your blog and recipes ! I was diagnoses with abdominal cancer on the morning of my birthday, march 1st 2013, and can only take liquids until treatment in San Diego this month , so I can’t enjoy your wonderful recipes yet . But I have miso soup daily at the hospital , and find it very healing !
Aside from that, my favorite foods are Hawaiian : poki ( raw seasoned fish), pipi kaula (smoked meat, often wild pig local hunters catch), lomilomi salmon , poi (made from taro), laulau ( pork, butterfish wrapped in taro leaf then tied in a bundle wit ti lead then steamed), and never forget the ahi sashimi.
That’s THE BEST, but we are so blessed to have an extreme diversity of cultures in Hawaii, and soooo much good food in a some time mind- boogling variety 😀
We currently live on Guam. Lots of blended cultures and cuisine.
Love the island fusion food.
Hi Nami,
Your post brought tears to my eyes. It never cease to amaze me when I hear stories of people’s selflessness.
Anyways, my favourite local food that is local and unique to my area is candied salmon. Its like a salmon fillet jerky coated with maple syrup.
The cookbook looks really amazing! Also, I alreasy am an Instagram and email subscriber (I know you didnt mention IG but I am not on FB, Pinterest, Google Plus or Twitter). lol
Thanks for your generosity by donating these 3 books!
