Today I’m partnering with Tuttle Publishing to give away two (2) copies of Japanese Design by Patricia J. Graham! This giveaway contest is open to everyone worldwide.
In Japanese Design, Asian art expert and author Patricia J. Graham explains how Japanese aesthetics based in fine craftsmanship and simplicity developed. Her unusual, full-color presentation reveals this design aesthetic in an absorbing way, using a combination of insightful explanations and more than 160 stunning photos. Focusing upon ten elements of Japanese design, Graham explores how visual qualities, the cultural parameters and the Japanese religious traditions of Buddhism and Shinto have impacted the appearance of its arts.

Thank you so much for participating this giveaway! Here are the winners:
Congratulations Suzan Nakashima (#115) and Al Grappone (#184)! I’ll email you shortly.
I love so much about Japanese culture and style, it is difficult to decide what particularly draws me in. I adore the elegance of kimono, and love geiko and maiko. I am always amazed at the colour combinations used in the kimono and obi as well as the rest of the kitsuke. Crafts such as etegami and ikebana, and the skills used in chanoyu appeal greatly to me. I also admire the simplicity and clean lines of the decor in the use of tatami mats and shoji doors.
I love how Japanese houses make the most of the restricted space. There’s such innovative storage and design spaces!
since i was a little girl visiting our neighbor nayoko back in 1960’s oklahoma, i have been in love with anything and everything japanese, from kimonos and mon to nigiri sushi and zosui. japanese design is ichiban in my book. domo arigato :0
I love the clean designs in Japanese crafts and textiles. I’m particularly enamored with the creative and inventive ways of packaging.
I love the simplistic warm nature of Japanese designs. I absolutely love the izakaya-style décor and the sliding doors! Definitely getting that for my future home!
