As I know how much you enjoy Japanese and Asian recipes, you will LOVE these cookbooks! Both My Japanese Table cookbook and The Korean Table cookbook are written by my friend Debra Samuels. Please check out these beautiful cookbooks below.
Bestselling author and food writer Debra Samuels uses her unique skills and deep love of Japan to make the cuisine of her adopted country attainable in My Japanese Table.
Bringing a wealth of experience and a great passion for Japanese cooking to the table, Debra introduces the aesthetics and quality food that are the hallmarks of Japanese cuisine. She learned through her years in Japan that true Japanese homestyle dishes are easy to prepare once you master a few basic techniques. And now that authentic Japanese ingredients are available in most supermarkets, Japanese food has become far more accessible than ever before.
The recipes in this Japanese cookbook, the result of decades spent teaching and preparing homestyle Japanese dishes, include familiar favorites like Hand-Rolled Sushi and classic Miso Soup and less familiar but equally welcome dishes such as Lobster Rolls with Wasabi Mayonnaise and Fried Pork Cutlets. There is also a chapter on the increasingly popular bento lunch boxes, along with a wonderful selection of desserts, including the delectable Mochi Dumplings with Strawberries. All of the recipes come with stories and cooking tips to help bring the sights, aromas and tastes of Japan into your kitchen at home.
This Japanese cookbook includes chapters on:
- Basic recipes
- Sushi
- Snacks and appetizers
- Soups and salads
- Rice and noodles
- Meat and poultry
- Fish and seafood
- Vegetable and tofu dishes
- Bento
- Desserts and drinks
The Korean Table features some of the most delicious Seoul food around!
Here is a collection of recipes that are not only new, but also fresh and healthy yet robust and intensely flavored. Poised to become America’s next favorite Asian cuisine, Korean food is rapidly gaining in popularity throughout the country. Korean recipes such as bulgogi (Korean barbecue), kimchi (pickled spicy cabbage) and bibimbap (mixed rice) are only a few of the savory, authentic meals that are taking the food world by storm.
The Korean Table is a wonderful new cookbook that shows American cooks how to create the tempting flavors of Korean cuisine at home. Chung and Samuels, a Korean and an American, team up to guide home cooks through the process of making Korean meals without fuss, multiple trips to specialty markets or expensive online shopping. Along with showing you how to create complete Korean meals from start to finish—from Scallion Pancakes to Korean Dumplings (mandu) and Simmered Beef Short Ribs—this Korean cookbook also includes information about how you can add the flavors of a Korean kitchen to your meal in numerous quick and easy ways every day, using condiments, side dishes, salad dressings, sauces and more.

…and don’t worry about not having send a new video. No one person can do everything. I sometimes get that comment, but I really can’t either 😉 Besides, I sometimes wonder how much spare Mr. JOC really does get – from what you tell, he sounds like he’s working around the clock, isn’t he?
I do follow you on Instagram (but bad mobile network has hindered me using Instagram in Taiwan 🙁 – hope to share a few images soon)
I like your Facebook page as always
Oh, both cookbooks sound really exciting to have in my kitchen, but just one of them would be great too.
I must admit, even though cheese board are popular, I didn’t expect that one to come on your Newsletter. I have to start cutting back on lactose cookery because my brother tries to reduce the intake in his pescribed diet plan from the doctor. I don’t mind doing so, particular since I’m in Taiwan now and eat at most places that don’t have cheese.
BTW thanks for the night market video you once did months ago – I took the chance to visit one night market and it really was fantastic!
These are such delectable dishes – mmmm………
