What is Nozomi Project?
The Nozomi Project is a social enterprise in Ishinomaki, Japan — one of the hardest hit area during 2011 Tohoku Earthquake and Tsunami.
The women in Ishinomaki needed a place to gather and find “Nozomi” (a Japanese word for hope) as most of them lost their homes or a loved one, or both.
The founder of the Nozomi Project came to Ishinomaki to help with disaster relief. She found many pieces of broken pottery and thought she could turn these shards of pottery into high-quality jewelry products. And that’s how the Nozomi Project was founded.
The ladies at the Nozomi Project make beautiful jewelry with broken pieces of pottery left by the horrible disaster, and the Nozomi Project brings sustainable income, community, dignity, strength, and hope for these women.

They are beautiful. It is such a testament to the Japanese people’s strength to rebuild after the tsunami.
Hi, I really do enjoy your newsletters and seeing all the lovely dishes. My daughter just became a teenager and has been so fascinated with Japan and says one day she hopes to visit. She is such a picky eater and well I was hoping that by receiving your emails with recipes that she just might want to try some dishes since she is so fascinated with Japan. It hasn’t worked yet. There were a few she might have tried if we had a store her that carries some of the ingredients. Have to wait until we go to a big city. Once again thank you and I will continue enjoying your awesome emails.

It is an amazing project that let people continue to appreciate beautiful Japanese artwork in these broken pottery pieces, encourage recycling, minimize wastage and gives the women a source of income. Kudos to the project!
