Today I’m partnering with Tuttle Publishing to give away two (2) copies of Japanese Design by Patricia J. Graham! This giveaway contest is open to everyone worldwide.
In Japanese Design, Asian art expert and author Patricia J. Graham explains how Japanese aesthetics based in fine craftsmanship and simplicity developed. Her unusual, full-color presentation reveals this design aesthetic in an absorbing way, using a combination of insightful explanations and more than 160 stunning photos. Focusing upon ten elements of Japanese design, Graham explores how visual qualities, the cultural parameters and the Japanese religious traditions of Buddhism and Shinto have impacted the appearance of its arts.

Thank you so much for participating this giveaway! Here are the winners:
Congratulations Suzan Nakashima (#115) and Al Grappone (#184)! I’ll email you shortly.
I like them all.
I like Japanese minimalist design. I like that they don’t have to “show off” in their decor–that the simple, elegant creations speak for themselves. For example, a lamp that my family brought over from Japan has beautiful flower carvings on it, but the flowers are soft and not overpowering, and don’t grab unnecessary attention away from the light of the lamp.
