When I visited Arima Onsen (有馬温泉), I purchased this Tansan Senbei (炭酸せんべい) from Yunohanado-Honpo (湯の花堂本舗). Tansan Sebei are soda crackers and this package has 3 flavors (vanilla, chocolate, strawberry) inside.
I wanted to host a giveaway at the same time when I share my travel post about Arima Onsen, but the expiration date for this snack is August 14…, so I decided to do the giveaway first!

Congratulations Meg (#122)! I’ll email you shortly!
There are leaf shaped cream filled imagawayaki type things from a store front on Miyajima Island which are so delish!
I’m not sure because I never going to Japan yet, so anything difficult to get outside japan? 😀
I would be really happy with getting ingredients which aren’t available here in Germany… Like Koji powder, powdered Sansho pepper, Mentaiko…
I would love to get some kashigata! I didn’t have time to scout for any for these intricate cookie stamps the last time I was in Japan.
My family was in Hokkaido in June and we fell in love with the famous cheese tart! ???? Can we have that in August? ( I understand that is a difficult wish. Maybe you can teach us how to bake it?)
Looking fwd to your travel post,
Chea
I would love to have a good knife for cutting sashimi,
Would love getting from Japan anything which is close to impossible to get via internet or mail order. Something truly just available in Japan.
Subscribed! I’d love to try authentic Japanese snacks like chocolates, wafers, or Senbei.
I subscribe to you on your blog.
I’ve been a subscriber for a little while and enjoy your articles. I wouldn’t know where to begin to ask for recipes and ideas from Japanese culture so I’ll leave it up to you for next month. Keep up the great work!
On our Apr 2015 trip to Kyoto we tried Yudofu (food recommended that I read from your Travel Blog). We flied back from Osaka to Sydney and we bought a lot of daifuku in boxes for souvenir. They are all wrapped beautifully and taste delicious. We visited Japan again on Apr 2016, and this time we went to Kobe to have Kobe beef but we are not aware of the soda crackers. Of course I would love to try this. BTW if you visit UJI, try the Maccha Azuki…and UJI tea leaf too.
Happy holiday and look forward to yr Aug newsletter
I want to buy fresh wasabi when I get to Japan. I juat learned that the wasabi in tubes that are sild in stores are just horse radish with green food coloring.
