After working hard for the past several months, I’m extremely happy to announce that my first eBook, Just One Cookbook – Essential Japanese Recipes is here!
After all, Just One Cookbook is no longer one cookbook! 🙂
During the past 3 years of blogging, I’ve received many interests and inquiries for my cookbook from JOC readers. My reply has always been, “No, I do not have published cookbooks, just the blog to keep all the recipes I love.”
However, with the increasing requests for a cookbook, you’ve convinced me! I realized many of my readers are interested in cooking Japanese food, but when you come to my site it’s not very clear where to start.
So I’ve selected 33 easy and simple recipes that my family, JOC readers, and I love most from Just One Cookbook.
Just One Cookbook Essential Japanese Recipes (e-Book)
This cookbook has over 90 pages of recipes and instructions for appetizers, side dishes, main dishes, rice & noodles, and dessert, which include 12 pages of Japanese cooking basics and pantry items.
Here are a few snapshots from the book:

Hello, I simply love your recipes. I would like to purchase the book but I do not want the ebook. Can I find the book it self?
Hi Emma! Thank you for asking! Unfortunately at this time, we do not have a physical cookbook. Maybe one day… 🙂
I purchased your ebook but when I upgraded to iPhone 11, I lost it. Can you send it to me again?
Hi Theresa! Sure! Could you respond to this email by hitting reply (instead of leaving a comment, so others won’t see your personal information)?
I couldn’t find your name or email in the purchase record, and I’m thinking you used a different email for your Paypal. Talk soon!
Does your cookbook not work on android phones?
Hi Steve! It will work on android phones. 🙂
I purchased the Ebook but don’t know how to access it?
Hi Ralph! I’m sorry for my late response. I’ll email you right away.
Tragic you don’t offer a hard cover book…..
For us older folk, hard cover is the only way to go….
FYI, you will not save the world and trees are a completely renewable resource…
Oh well, Thank you, you are an amazing cook!!!!!
Hi Michael! “Tragic”!! You’re so sweet. Thank you so much for your interest in my hardcover cookbook. I understand what you mean, I like physical books as well. It’s just about the time I need to put aside to make a cookbook. Running this website and youtube channel is our full-time job and we have a team to keep this going, and we just don’t have the budget or resource to keep 3 things going… so we’re focusing on the blog and youtube to make sure to reach more people in the world who needs Japanese recipes. 🙂 Hopefully one day… maybe when my kids are off to college and we can allocate some time for the cookbook. 🙂
HI! I just bought the book but don’t see nothing, no link from email, could you help me, thank you.
Hi Phuong! Thanks so much for purchasing my ebook! I’m sorry for my late response as I was traveling.
The download email is sent out automatically to a paypal email account/buyer’s email address (instead of your regular email account). Please check your paypal email if it’s different from your regular one.
If you still can’t find the email, please reach us. I quickly checked your email (the one you used here) with my ebook system, but I couldn’t locate the email. I assume your paypal is different email address…
I have purchased the ebook today. Now, how do I download it. Since I have to use a laptop, I’m not sure how to do so since I have not done this before. I purchased the ebook using my Android phone so I could not download then. I do have a Chromebook computer. Please explain the download process. Thanks!
Hi Linda! I’ve emailed you back with the instruction. Thank you so much for purchasing my ebook! 🙂
I’m a sansei from Hawaii and lived and worked in Japan and Okinawa for 10 years in the 80’s and 90’s. Consequently, I know a little about Japanese cooking. I refer to your recipes a lot, mainly for ingredients. I wish that you would offer a hard cover version of your cookbook for my collection.
Warm regards,
Rik
Hi Rik! Thank you so much for your kind message and interest in my cookbook! Yes, that would be nice one day… maybe when I get a good opportunity. It’s a lot of work to write a cookbook (and take all the pictures!) and I can’t abandon my website while writing a cookbook… so that’s been the issue so far. We’ll see! One day!
Hi Nami!
I just wanted to say a huge thanks for all your work on your amazing blog. It’s brilliant and I use it at least several times every week. Actually this has to be one of my favourite ‘products’ I use in my daily life.
I have a question though; I see how much time and effort goes into this blog, and want to know how your reader base can better support you. I’ve bought your cookbook, will use your amazon link when I need something and also recommend your site widely, but I feel like this isn’t really in any way commensurate to the benefits I get from this site and the efforts that go into it. Can you let me, and your read base know how we can better support your work?
Many thanks and best wishes !
Tamara
Hi Tamara! You’re so sweet and thank you so much for your generosity and kind support. We make living with ads shown on the website – so more people visit and spend time on the site, we get paid more, simply speaking. It’s always a tricky balance because if it’s too many ads, then people won’t be happy and will stop visiting. And no one likes ads on the website… So we “try” to keep it less invasive and do not go above the industry standard amount on food blogs. Your support meant so much to me already, and thank you for using my site! If you have any feedback, let us know. We’re always listening and trying to improve. Thank you from bottom of my heart!
I love all the recipes you have and your site is my go to for many family meals. My only complaint is that with all the ads now, I am having trouble scrolling through and finding recipes easily. The jump to recipe link doesn’t always work and there is a lag time even as I type this email. It’s getting really frustrating. Is there a pay option where I can eliminate the ads altogether?
Hi Brenda! Thank you for your feedback!
Since we turned off the video ads last November, which (pays very well but) was very annoying, we do not have any more popup ad that is covering the mobile screen or slowing down. Regarding the ads you’re referring to, are they the ads between the text in the post? We do not add more ads than industry-standard/average because it’s not really worth losing my readers. But if there is anything we can improve the user experience, we would try to fix it.
Unfortunately, ads are our main income source for our family (as both of us are working full time to run this site) and we have a team that supports this site. Therefore, we can’t remove the ads. We did consider a membership option, but that won’t work because recipes are free online these days. I can only suggest installing the ads blocker to avoid them. I’m sorry.
Thank you so much for spending your time to write feedback. I’m going to bring up the lag issue with my ad network to see if the ads are causing it and then will talk to the web developer if it’s not related to the ads.
Can I purchase by mailing you a check? Instead of an electronic payment over the Internet?
Hi Sharren! Thank you for your interest in purchasing my ebook! Unfortunately, we do not accept a check. I’ll email you shortly.
Hi there!
I used to live in Japan and I love your straightforward recipes and videos! You really fill a wonderful niche for people who don’t live in Japan, but know how wonderful the food is!
I just wanted to encourage you to consider making your ebook into a published book one day… It’s now possible to publish cookbooks in a one-off fashion as they get ordered.
Also, until we are able to have a large computer screen permanently up in our kitchen, most people will never find a computer or phone a convenient way to get through a recipe. Most of us print the recipe on a printer just to be able to follow the recipe readily and without fuss.
In other words, a REAL cookbook is a wonderful wonderful thing! ♥️♥️
Hi Sofia! Thank you for your kind words and encouragement. Maybe one day…when we have a good opportunity and time to work on new recipes for the book (as I mentioned, this ebook includes ONLY recipes that have been shared on the blog). 🙂 Thank you for your interest!
You make cooking look simple and interesting. I like the way you teach how to cook. Thank you so much. I enjoy watching and trying your recipes!
I am a fan from Thailand!
Thank you so much for your kind words, Anne!
It would be such a beautiful hardbound or paperback book. I hope one day you will consider having one printed.
Hi Richard! Aww, thank you for your kind words. Yes, maybe one day when there is a good opportunity. 🙂
Please consider publishing your cookbook in paper. I would be among the first in line to purchase a copy.
Hi Brenda! Thank you for your kind words and I hope we can do that one day! 🙂
