{Worldwide} Win a brand new JOC sweatshirt that comes in white or black! This giveaway is open to a worldwide audience.
JOC has a brand-new logo! If you’ve been following our blog for a while, you might have noticed the presence of a graceful Japanese lady in the kimono on the header of our web pages. The logo, designed by the talented Kaori Drome, is a small labor of love. And it is the first time I feel truly connected to a visual image that speaks of Just One Cookbook. So we wanted to celebrate this special moment with a new JOC sweatshirt giveaway!
JOC Logo Design
For those who are curious about the meaning of the design, here are some features:
- An ukiyo-e (浮世絵) style lady in the kimono is reading a cookbook while she cooks with saibashi (cooking chopsticks) in her hand.
- The cookbook cover says “one” (壱) in kanji.
- The red stamp represents Japanese hanko stamps, showing again “one” (壱) in kanji.
- The Japanese letter below Just One Cookbook says ジャストワンクックブック in katakana.
Is this lady in the kimono supposed to be me? Maybe! When it comes to Japanese cuisine, I enjoy learning more about traditional and classic styles of cooking and techniques. As I see the importance of preserving one’s culture through its culinary treasures that have withstanding time, it motivates me to share and advocate for what defines the essence of my cuisine.
Surely, cuisines evolve and we welcome creativity, but I believe we can stay true to the ethos. I hope you enjoy the new logo and what I share on Just One Cookbook.

I look for recipes that teach traditional Japanese techniques. Simple but tasty recipes are what keep me coming back.
I lived and worked in Japan for 16 years and love Japanese food. Now I live in Normandy,France, which is beautiful but has no Japanese restaurants. I look for JOC recipes with plant-based ingredients that I can make from local produce and what I grow in my own garden (shiso, mitsuba, kabocha, daikon). I especially love the soups and tofu dishes. Thank you!
I look for easy to make traditional Japanese recipes and something I haven’t had or recently had at a restaurant. Also, I just enjoy reading your emails and recipes.
I look for traditional Japanese recipes that will remind me of what I ate in Japan.
My family loves Japanese food, so whenever there’s craving for Japanese food, Just One Cookbook is always & the only the recipe book to go to for me. Thanks for wonderful recipes with video making it easier to understand.
Im always looking forward to Japanese recipes i can try to cook at home,. Your recipes are always easy to follow. Thanks
I love seeing your different ideas and what you have to offer. So much of your cooking is natsukashi and makes me happy to see and try. Thank you!
I look for traditional comfort food recipes. The oyakodon chicken and egg dish is simple and easy for my family to eat young and old!
Most of the time, when I get on justonecookbook, I have an ingredient in mind (like kabocha, mushrooms, salmon etc.) and search for a yummy looking dish that includes that. However, there are quite a few recipes that I know that I like by now so a lot of times, I just search for that recipe. Thank you, as always for your love and dedication for this community!
Great recipes. Love your recipes. I just made Miso salmon from your recipe. It turned out great and my husband loved it. We live in Vancouver Canada and we have no problem getting the condiments. We love visiting Japan which we made trips to Japan 6 consecutive years before the pandemics.
I am always looking for recipes at just one cook book. Love that there usually is an accompanying video to the written recipe so it is easier to refer to.
I look for soup recipes! Egg drop and Miso soup are wonderful!
I look for traditional recipes, especially those associated with Japanese holidays. It brings back wonderful memories of living in Japan, and I love your explanations of the history of the meals and the holidays.
Hello!
I look for flavourful ways to use tofu root vegetables and non starchy veggies. I love Japanese cuisine, but prefer to cook my own delicious food so I know exactly what I am eating!
I particularly like soups and hot pots.
I like to look for authentic Japanese meal recipes, could be dinner or dessert, and I find it in JOC. Love the way you present it while learn about the food culture too.
