{Worldwide} Win a brand new JOC sweatshirt that comes in white or black! This giveaway is open to a worldwide audience.
JOC has a brand-new logo! If you’ve been following our blog for a while, you might have noticed the presence of a graceful Japanese lady in the kimono on the header of our web pages. The logo, designed by the talented Kaori Drome, is a small labor of love. And it is the first time I feel truly connected to a visual image that speaks of Just One Cookbook. So we wanted to celebrate this special moment with a new JOC sweatshirt giveaway!
JOC Logo Design
For those who are curious about the meaning of the design, here are some features:
- An ukiyo-e (浮世絵) style lady in the kimono is reading a cookbook while she cooks with saibashi (cooking chopsticks) in her hand.
- The cookbook cover says “one” (壱) in kanji.
- The red stamp represents Japanese hanko stamps, showing again “one” (壱) in kanji.
- The Japanese letter below Just One Cookbook says ジャストワンクックブック in katakana.
Is this lady in the kimono supposed to be me? Maybe! When it comes to Japanese cuisine, I enjoy learning more about traditional and classic styles of cooking and techniques. As I see the importance of preserving one’s culture through its culinary treasures that have withstanding time, it motivates me to share and advocate for what defines the essence of my cuisine.
Surely, cuisines evolve and we welcome creativity, but I believe we can stay true to the ethos. I hope you enjoy the new logo and what I share on Just One Cookbook.

Most of the time I am not looking for anything specific. Usually I just enjoy browsing through your posts and I really enjoy the posts about various japanese holidays.
As I’m a big fan of Japanese cuisine, I come here to find out more about a specific dish (its history or how/when it’s usually enjoyed or…), to browse and look for dinner ideas or to learn some cooking techniques. Thank you for all the wonderful recipes!
I most often try your recipes for comfort food, like the instant pot curry rice, and we make them repeatedly! I do love browsing through all the recipes; your website is a wonderful window to Japan.
I’ve been subscriber since the very beginning. I cook Japanese food a lot at home and enjoy your simple recipes using many of the ingredients found in my pantry. I do not like to deep fry so my all time favorite is your baked chicken katsu. I use many of your recipes every week that I keep in a binder in my kitchen. Keep up the good work.
Whenever I try something new at a restaurant, I come here to see how I can make it at home.
Konnichiwa, I try all your savory dishes to pretend (lol) I’m in Japan until I can get there! They are my favorite cookbooks, and I used your Osechi cookbook to plan and execute my New Years for my family (we are not Japanese but even my Mom tried everything, including the Tadukuri candied fish). I appreciate all you have done to bring us authentic Japanese flavors. Thank you ☺️
Thank you for providing all the delicious, recipes. I look for “comfort foods” and dessert recipes and you do not disappoint. Of course, special occasion dishes (New Years) take a little preparation, but through your recipes and tips for presentation, they are a hit! Each of the recipes I’ve tried have been successful in making it to my “will make again” list! Greetings from Canada.

Good morning Namiko. Being a Sansei and long time subscriber of JOC, I find your recipes delicious and relatively easy to make. Your recipes remind me of dishes my Bachan used to make whenever family got together ❤️😃!
I always search for different things! Sometimes by specific produce, sometimes I just don’t know what I want for dinner… Honestly, JOC is my automatic starting point for recipies!
I really love Just One Cookbook because it has a wide range of recipes, you can prepare any kind of food or party with the recipes here
I visit Just One Cookbook after a long day, to find something that will comfort me and make me forget about all the bad things in the world with its deliciousness 🥰
I love the recipes. My son is really into Japanese cooking and this is a great site to get authentic recipes. L. Black if I win🥰
Hey Nami, this page was my introduction into Japanese food. My first successful recipe being カレー using your curry roux recipe. I go back to that recipe all the time when I visit your page. I also always look for new recipes that are on the fresher side and use a lot of vegetables on your page. Those are always a treat! Love the new logo, it suits this brand. Love from Germany
Hi Nami, I first came across JOC’s Japanese potato salad when I had a lot of potatoes with no new ideas on how to cook them. Nowadays, this appetizer is a regular dish I prepare on repeat!
I just luv all world quisines and the same with JOC recipes. Anything that takes takes my fancy on the day.
