{Worldwide} Win a brand new JOC sweatshirt that comes in white or black! This giveaway is open to a worldwide audience.
JOC has a brand-new logo! If you’ve been following our blog for a while, you might have noticed the presence of a graceful Japanese lady in the kimono on the header of our web pages. The logo, designed by the talented Kaori Drome, is a small labor of love. And it is the first time I feel truly connected to a visual image that speaks of Just One Cookbook. So we wanted to celebrate this special moment with a new JOC sweatshirt giveaway!
JOC Logo Design
For those who are curious about the meaning of the design, here are some features:
- An ukiyo-e (浮世絵) style lady in the kimono is reading a cookbook while she cooks with saibashi (cooking chopsticks) in her hand.
- The cookbook cover says “one” (壱) in kanji.
- The red stamp represents Japanese hanko stamps, showing again “one” (壱) in kanji.
- The Japanese letter below Just One Cookbook says ジャストワンクックブック in katakana.
Is this lady in the kimono supposed to be me? Maybe! When it comes to Japanese cuisine, I enjoy learning more about traditional and classic styles of cooking and techniques. As I see the importance of preserving one’s culture through its culinary treasures that have withstanding time, it motivates me to share and advocate for what defines the essence of my cuisine.
Surely, cuisines evolve and we welcome creativity, but I believe we can stay true to the ethos. I hope you enjoy the new logo and what I share on Just One Cookbook.

Hello! I love visiting Just One Cookbook when I want to try new Japanese recipes. I enjoy learning new techniques and making these dishes is a fun way to immerse myself as I learn Japanese and prepare for a trip to Japan in 2023. I would love to see what the black sweatshirt looks like! I’m a size small or medium.
Now that my mother has passed away I always go to JOC to look for recipes of foods I grew up eating so I can recreate them.

I live the DIY things like making my own curry roux. I never asked my grandmother for recipes (not that she had any) so I love the traditional recipes as well. Any Hawaiian-style Japanese recipes?
