{Worldwide} Win a brand new JOC sweatshirt that comes in white or black! This giveaway is open to a worldwide audience.
JOC has a brand-new logo! If you’ve been following our blog for a while, you might have noticed the presence of a graceful Japanese lady in the kimono on the header of our web pages. The logo, designed by the talented Kaori Drome, is a small labor of love. And it is the first time I feel truly connected to a visual image that speaks of Just One Cookbook. So we wanted to celebrate this special moment with a new JOC sweatshirt giveaway!
JOC Logo Design
For those who are curious about the meaning of the design, here are some features:
- An ukiyo-e (浮世絵) style lady in the kimono is reading a cookbook while she cooks with saibashi (cooking chopsticks) in her hand.
- The cookbook cover says “one” (壱) in kanji.
- The red stamp represents Japanese hanko stamps, showing again “one” (壱) in kanji.
- The Japanese letter below Just One Cookbook says ジャストワンクックブック in katakana.
Is this lady in the kimono supposed to be me? Maybe! When it comes to Japanese cuisine, I enjoy learning more about traditional and classic styles of cooking and techniques. As I see the importance of preserving one’s culture through its culinary treasures that have withstanding time, it motivates me to share and advocate for what defines the essence of my cuisine.
Surely, cuisines evolve and we welcome creativity, but I believe we can stay true to the ethos. I hope you enjoy the new logo and what I share on Just One Cookbook.

Always looking for authentic, traditional recipes, since I can always mess around on my own. And I would proudly wear this sweatshirt!
I’m often looking for a fresh Japanese meal idea, preferably something that looks great and tastes better. The family favourites are Chicken Katsu, Karaage Chicken and Japanese Potato salad, all of which are made better with your recipes.
I have been interested in Japanese culture ever since starting my apprenticeship as a chef 43 years ago. I’ve managed to purchase some lovely Japanese knives made by Sakai Takiyama . I love the way Japanese craft people put 110% into everything they do. Japanese cooking is so healthy as well as delicious.
I’m looking for authentic japanese recipes to cook for my children which are huge manga and anime fans.
Also JOC is allways a good resource to get inspired if you have some vegetables left and have no idea what to cook with it.
I love learning about other countries through food – I’m a keen cook and enjoy experimenting with new and varied ingredients and techniques. I enjoy the traditional, the modern and the fusion twists as well. Your blog is informative and fun and has given me the confidence to try Japanese cuisine. (I still can’t use chopsticks though!!)
After visiting Japan 3 times, I love and like to cook and eat real traditional recipes like the ones on your site.
But I need the help of good explanation like you do!
Hi Nami. I usually come looking for recipes that I try in Asian restaurants in my city and I love them. Your recipes are simple, very well explained and accessible. Thanks for sharing them with all of us. A hug from Spain.
Hi! I look for some traditional dishes that my mother used to make such as Oyako donburi, green beans or spinach with goma ae, chirashizushi, ozone etc. Also quick easy dinners! I look forward to learning more as well as basic tips for Japanese cooking. Thank you!
I like to look for easy dinners usually around a protein I’ve got and want to try something new with.
I really enjoy looking at the countless recipes on this website, and enjoy making traditional Japanese food for my family! I also love the occasional dessert; sweet breads are my favorite. Thank you for your time and effort! 🙂
This is my favorite website for any cooking recipes. They are so thorough that it helps for someone like me to follow easily. I’ve tried from your easy cooking, to the stew and even desserts! they have all been winners with my kids 🙂
I love your website. I will go to your website every morning to give me inspiration for the day. My family fall in love with Japanese cuisine since we have been introduce years ago. Your website gives me the confidence to cook it for my family. During weekdays I’ll go for quick & easy menus. But a bit more elaborate for the weekend or for entertainment
Usually quick easy menus. Always able to find something delicious!!
I like looking up veggie dishes. Especially with daikon and eggplant. Some have been my family’s favorite “go to” dishes ☺️👍👍
I usually visit justonecookbook when I have an ingredient but I don’t know what to cook with it, or I want to cook something different from usual. I also navigate the site for ideas for dinner, usually recipes that are easy and quick. Thank you for your job!😊
