Want to cook Japanese or Asian dishes but don’t have a store nearby? Here are the shops and marketplace where you can get Asian ingredients online.

Although I’m far away from my home country Japan, I’m fortunate to live near 3 Japanese grocery stores 15 minutes away from our home in the San Francisco area. They carry fresh Japanese produces, dry Asian ingredients, thinly sliced meat, sashimi, and many other products that we can’t find in regular American grocery stores. In the same locale, I can also access to other Asian grocery stores that offer similar goods for Japanese and Asian cooking.
But I understand many folks across the country and outside of the US don’t have such luxuries. Unless you live in a large city, you may need to rely on online shops to get your necessities. So I’ve put together this resource page featuring online shops that offer a wide range of Japanese & Asian ingredients. Also included are trustable shops offering seafood, meat, and even Asian seed company where you can grow your own greens. Hope you find it useful!

Local Japanese & Asian Grocery Stores in Your City
Looking for local Japanese/Asian grocery stores in your city? Check out the list for grocery stores around the world provided by local JOC readers. Some of the shops also provide local delivery, so it’s worth looking them up!
I recommend https://www.yamibuy.com/en ! It’s an online Asian store based in California. I have purchased from them multiple times, and they’re reliable in quality and delivery. They have a large variety of Asian food options (Chinese, Taiwan, Korean, Japanese, etc.) at competitive prices.
Great! Thanks Sunny!
https://shop-vic.fujimart.com.au/ Is based in Melbourne, Australia
This is great. Thanks for the rec, Matthew.
Thanks for the list! For online deliveries, also check out Justasianfood.com and 99 Ranch Market.
Thanks LS. We have the 2 listed already:)
Hi everyone! Does anybody know of a website that carries Nekombu for purchase? Can’t find it locally in Atlanta GA.
Hi Linda! Do you have to get this specific part of kombu (root part of kombu)? I only could find this:
https://mtckitchen.com/hokkaido-ne-kombu-dashi-liquid-16-9-fl-oz-500ml/
Hi Nami, thank you so much for your reply! Yes, she’s very particular with the kombu she uses in her Okinawan stew. We soak them, tie them into knots and simmer in the broth along with the other ingredients. They keep a very nice, almost crunchy texture, in addition to flavoring the broth. Thanks again and stay safe and healthy!
Hi Linda! Then you can buy Nishime Kombu (see the package in this: https://www.justonecookbook.com/nishime-kombu/). Unlike thick kombu used for dashi, this soft kombu is meant for making knots and eat them.
Here’s one store that has it online: http://www.pacificeastwest.com/011152011714.html
Domo arigato gozaimasu!
It’s sold out but I will find it somewhere and definitely order!
Great list. You might also consider adding Japanese Pantry, a San Francisco online shop.

Oh, great looking store! Thank you for letting us know, Magie!
One more comment! For those who are gardeners, Kitazawa Seed Company in Oakland, CA supplies a huge variety of Asian greens and vegetable seeds. There are even recipes in their seed catalog!
Oh yes, we love Kitazawa Seed too. Added to the list.
You have left out 2 big sources online: Gold Mine Natural Foods in Poway, CA and Natural Imports in Rutherfordton NC.
Thanks for the excellent recommendations, Susan! We’ve familiar with Natural Imports but never ordered from them before. Good to know you have. Thank you!
Thank you for this list! It does suck that even with the online options most of these seem pretty limited to west coast or NYC 🙁 Need more of these kind of stores on the East coast!
Hi Caitlin – It does seem that way because of the higher concentration of Asian community in the West Coat or NYC. There are a few of the online shops like AFG or Tokyo Central do ship nationwide. Otherwise, Amazon is the easiest platform to go to. May I know which state are you in? Some of the local stores may offer local delivery.
Surprisingly I am in New York State but I’m closer to Canada than NYC (I’m near Lake Ontario). There are maybe a couple of Asian Markets near where I live but I’ve had trouble finding some good quality Japanese produce. Might not be possible Where I live yet :/
In Seattle Washington and Beaverton Oregon, Uwajimaya – a family owned Asian grocery and gift store has been providing products since 1928.
Hi Lynn, thanks for chiming in. This particular page is for online stores. Since Uwajimaya is brick mortar, we have it listed on this page:
https://www.justonecookbook.com/japanese-grocery-stores-around-the-world/
Are there any online Asian food stores in Canada?
Hi Claudine – We did some research, but we only found two sources for Canada. I just updated them on the page here. Amazon does ship to Canada, so maybe that’s another one you can try. Some people do recommend contacting the brick and mortar stores to see if they offer local delivery. You can check this page for Asian/ Japanese stores:
https://www.justonecookbook.com/japanese-grocery-stores-around-the-world/
We’re surprised that there isn’t many Asian/ Japanese online grocery stores in Canada. There should be high enough demand. Hopefully this will change soon. Good luck! In the meantime, we can try to post this on Facebook and see if any of our Canadian readers have some rec for you.
I am happy to find your website.
Do you happen to know where I can purchase inari tofu pockets online?
I look forward to exploring more Japanese cuisine.
Hi Sharon – We usually purchase inari tofu from local Japanese grocery stores. You can look up some of the online stores listed above to see if any of them carry it. Asian Food Grocer or Tokyo Central may have it. Otherwise, you can also try making it at home:
https://www.justonecookbook.com/inari-age/
Any online shops that ship to Canada (other than Amazon which is not great for Japanese ingredients) that carry fresh natto (like fridge, breakfast kind in styrofoam), and slimey seaweed and the tiny pink eggs?
Hi Geo! I’m not too familiar with the online shops in Canada, but if we ever find out, I’ll let make a note here. 🙂
Hi Geo! Not sure if they carry the specific products you list, but I’m just about to place an order with T&T Market (https://www.tntsupermarket.com/) as they appear to deliver groceries to a number of cities in Canada. (I say appear because I haven’t tried it yet but am due for a restock.) Their selection lean more towards Chinese cooking, but they carry a wide variety of Asian products. Not as good as in their stores, but they definitely deliver some of the ingredients and products I am missing while trying not to go out as much. They deliver fresh and frozen foods with Next Day Delivery, and the more packaged products I believe take 3-5 days to arrive. I was going to leave a comment specifically recommending this for Canadian readers and hopefully Nami can update her list.
[…] ONLINE STORES for Asian ingredients […]
Do you know any affordable online stores (possibly based in Asia) that ship worldwide where I can shop for Japanese ingredients? I am in Turkey but shipping fees of stores based in Europe cost a fortune so I am hoping those based in Asia might be more affordable. A quick Google search provides many options but it is hard to know which are reliable. So any recommendations will be much appreciated!!
Hi Gul! Thank you for your question. I’m not familiar with online shops in Asia, but I’ll be on the lookout and will update as soon as I find some info. 🙂
