Join us as we tour the ruins of Fukuoka Castle and enjoy panoramic views of the city from where Tenshu Tower used to stand.
Unlike other Japanese castles that were reconstructed/rebuilt, Fukuoka Castle in the present day is just a ruin. In its place is Maizuru Park with an athletic stadium, soccer field, and baseball field. There are still some of the original Fukuoka Castle structure standing; however, the majority of the castle has decayed or fallen apart over the years.
The original castle was built in 1601 and completed over 7 years. Of the 47 guard towers, the Tamon Turrent, Kinen Turrent, and Shiomi Turret can still be seen today.
When we went in June, the lotus plants were in full bloom.
The castle was built on a hill and even though the buildings are no longer there, you can still take in the awesome views of Fukuoka City from where Tenshu Tower used to be.
Have more time in Fukuoka and want cool places to visit? Join us as we visit Dazaifu Tenmangu, Kyushu National Museum, and take in the bay view from Hakata Port Tower. For more Just One Cookbook travel series please visit our travel page.
Hi Nami and family!
I’m planning to go to Fukuoka and finally making your travel blogs useful (Been eyeing/bookmarking them for a while!) It’s very detailed, informative but not overwhelming! Just like your cooking videos! Also scrolling through your blogs/pictures — lovely family!
