2017 Holiday Gift Guide: 12 special gift picks for home cooks, friends, family, kids & someone special.
Once again the holiday seasons are almost upon us! Many of you have said how helpful it was when I started sharing holiday guide last year (thank you for supporting JOC!).
This year is no exception, I’ve carefully selected some of my favorite things to give. From useful kitchen items to travel companions for the kids to thoughtful gifts for the ladies, I hope you can find something that may strike the fancy of your family and friends. This list will give you a good head start before the holiday madness set in, and you’d have plenty of time for other fun things like holiday baking and relaxing!
Holiday Gift Guide – 12 Favorite Gifts for Your Loved Ones
GIFTS FOR HOME COOKS & FOODIES
1. Cutipol Goa Series Home Dinner Flatware Cutlery Set of 3 pieces
Many of you asked me where I get this cutlery set from. The Portugal brand cutlery ware not only look pretty, they also fit in the hands very well too!
2. Jaconsen Salt – Hand Harvested Pure Flake Sea Salt Slide Tin
A sprinkling of fine flake sea salt on the final dish can accentuates and ties all the flavors beautifully. Hand-harvested in Oregon, this sea salt comes in a handy slide tin which you can take along everywhere you go. Think stocking stuffer for the foodies you know!
3. Ceramic Suribachi Set with Wooden Pestle and Bamboo Cleaning Brush
One of my must-have kitchen tools is this Suribachi Set. It is a traditional Japanese ceramic mortar with wooden pestle that I use regularly to grind up sesame seeds for many Japanese dishes such as spinach gomeae, sesame dressing for salad, soy milk hot pot and so on. You can even use it to crush garlic, fresh herbs and all sorts of nuts to make dressings and sauces. It’s such a practical and presentable gift for someone who enjoys cooking and making Japanese meals at home.
4. Just One Cookbook – Essential Japanese Recipes (e-Book)
If you’re new to my blog, or if you know someone who loves Japanese food, I’d like to recommend my e-Book which features many classic Japanese recipes. It’s a great guide for beginners who like to start cooking Japanese food at home. 20% of the proceeds goes to charity every month.

5. Kindle e-Reader
My children have been using their kindle to read books for many years, and I consider it one of the best investments. They can continue to read English books while they spend the summer in Japan. They also carry their kindle to read in the car, restaurant, and many other places. It’s a wonderful way to always travel with books.
6. Magnetic Travel Game of Hangman
Planning on a road trip or airplane ride this holiday season? I got this for my children for our upcoming trip and it is nice and portable. There are other games to choose from too.
7. The Girls’ Book: How to Be the Best at Everything & The Boys’ Book of Survival (How to Survive Anything, Anywhere)
My children adore these books, and they love sharing tips that they learn from the books with their friends. There are some really interesting topics on the series that may be entertaining to the kids-at-heart too.

Many of you have asked about the nail colors I use in my Youtube videos. I found this gorgeous OPI Nail Passion color that has a neutral tone that works great on my skin this summer. I am digging the natural and versatile color.
9. StichFix
If you don’t have time to shop or do not like shopping, StichFix is such a convenient and smart way to get your wardrobe updated. Every month I pick some selected tops that I can wear for my YouTube videos without having to browse around so many places. Speak about time saving!
10. Nozomi Project
I’m a huge fan of Nozomi Project. Their annual Christmas ornament collection is a perfect gift for your friends and family.
